The two criteria that change everything

It looks like one question, but it is two. A construction site holds a stable crew eight or ten hours a day for months; an event concentrates thousands of people into a few hours and is then struck. The same unit serves both, but the number is not calculated the same way.

On site the determining factor is the crew present and the number of work fronts: three separated fronts mean three groups of units, even if the headcount total is identical. At an event the factor is peak-hour attendance, not total attendance for the day.

What raises the figure

  • Shifts changing over at the same hour: demand concentrates and a headcount-based figure falls short.
  • Scattered work fronts: a unit ten minutes away goes unused, and crews end up leaving the site.
  • Long duration with spaced maintenance: the unit saturates before the next visit.
  • Events serving drinks: usage frequency per guest rises sharply.
  • Public or client present in the area: the number does not change, the type of unit does.

Getting the figure for your project

This site’s calculator applies these same criteria and returns the breakdown by unit type in three screens, along with the suggested configuration for your project type. It does not return prices: price depends on model, quantity, duration, maintenance frequency and location.

Frequently asked questions

Does Mexican regulation require a specific number?

The obligation to provide sanitary services to personnel exists in Mexican labour regulation. The exact figure for each workplace depends on the type of facility and must be confirmed with the project’s health and safety function. The criteria published here are Saniprof’s operating ones.

Is it calculated the same for men and women?

The base criterion applies to total headcount. Where the proportion of women is high the mix should be reviewed, because time of use per person is longer and urinals do not offload demand as they do in a mostly male crew.

Short answer

On a construction site, Saniprof’s criterion is one toilet per 20 workers and one handwash unit per 40. At an event, one toilet per 100 guests and one handwash unit per 250. Duration, shifts, the proportion of women and the contracted maintenance frequency adjust that base.
